san jose police searching this morning for one of two men wanted in connection with the

involved shooting. alex savidge is thrive san jose where a memorial has been set up for a man caught in the middle of the violence. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. san jose police say while these two criminals were on the run, they tried to carjack a man here outside of the 7-11 store. and that driver ended up being shot and killed in the process. you can see outside of the store. a memorial has been set up for the victim identified as rory from san jose. police are trying to identify the man. one arrest has been blade. jonathan willwanks, 26 years old, is behind bars. police believe he and his friends committed these crimes and then opened up shots. police returned fire, wounding wilbanks. he was eventually taken into custody. police say -- police say his

accomplice managed to escape. he's considered a danger to the public. a police spokesman said they don't have any updates so far on the search but they do have a news conference planned for 9:0. keep in mind -- 9:30. keep in mind there is a $10,000 reward on the table for any information in this case. back to you. >> thank you. developing news out of the middle east. the cross talks continue between israel and gaza despite international peace efforts. we saw one air strike that sent a huge plume of smoke in the air. it turns out that was where a lot of local and foreign news organizations have offices. jihad said that air strike killed one of its top leaders. and hamas militants continue to fire rockets into israel most of which are intercepted by the iron dome

defense system. u.s. lawmakers are closely following the developments. the united states of america has got to push as hard as we can to resolve this israeli/palestinian issue. so many events are making that process go forward. >> senator mccain goes on to believe he thinks the u.s. should send a high-ranking official. >> this is the first visit ever. coming up at 7:15, the other history-making stop on the

president's stop. >> three people have been arrested now in connection with the death of a homeless man in santa cruz. police say the body of the 51- year-old victim was found late saturday night. he was pronounced dead at the camp site south of depot park. shortly after police say they found the suspects, jeremiah long, michael hudson and shaland gonzalez. they were booked for murder. the oakland tribune says the police union filed a harsh critique in court. the union also claims internal affairs investigators resulted in injust -- resulted in unjust

charges. a judge will hear arguments about whether to appoint a federal receiver. volunteers are preparing to serve holiday meals to those in need. janine de la vega has more. >> reporter: in about two hours, sacred heard -- sacred heart will be handing out these turkeys. people will be getting canned food, stuffing, fresh vegetables. they are okay as far as the number of donations they've gotten of canned foods but they don't -- they will not have enough turkeys to get them to the next couple of days. sacred heart community service will be giving out around 4,000 holiday food boxes to low income families. they will open the doors here at 9:00 a.m. to start handing out the boxes. about a week and a half ago, hundred of people lined up. some with small children.

they spent the night make sure they would get the food boxes for thanksgiving and also toys for the staff for christmas. even though the job market has picked up, the staff says it has not helped those low-income families, all of them. >> we're trying to understand the economy ourselves. this past week it was extremely busy here at sacred heart. >> reporter: sacred heart says while they have enough turkeys for today, they won't have enough to get them through tuesday or wednesday. they are short about 1,000 turkeys. they would really appreciate donations. if anyone wants to drop off a turkey. of course, they are taking monetary donation. they said to think about christmas when they are gonna need more canned food and toys. all of these boxes, those are all gonna be -- gonna be given out today. reporting live from san jose,

janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco authorities could pass a nudity ban tomorrow. this would make nudity illegal with the exception of permitted street fairs and parades. scott wiener is behind the pressure -- measure, saying there are too many complaints behind homeowners and nudity especially in the castro district. a group of nudists filed a lawsuit. let's check in with sal. >> westbound coming into san francisco. it's backed up for about a 15,

but the u.s. wants the agreement to detain prisoners that they believe are too dangerous to release. this is video of paula broadwell arriving back home in charlotte, north carolina, with her husband yesterday. broadwell spent last week at her brother's home in washington, d.c. a friend of broadwell's says she deeply regrets the damage that's been done to her family and everyone else's. and she's trying to repair the damage and move forward. new this morning, president obama is making the last stop of his whirlwind tour of southeast asia. he's now attending an east asian summit in cambodia. alison burns is in our washington, d.c. newsroom with how the president is making history on this trip. alison? >> reporter: tori, he's the first american president to visit cambodia. here is a look at president obama's arrival for the east asia summit. white house officials say the

this week one year. the ex-husband of a salon owner went on a shooting rampage at the salon in seal beach. the death penalty for the man accused is set for march. 7:18. people in the bay area took a moment to remember victims of america's worst mass suicide. a somber ceremony was held at the evergreen cemetery in oakland yesterday to mark the anniversary of the jonestown massacre. on november 1th, 1978 -- november 18th, 1978, the owner of the cult ordered his people to drink crien identify kool- aid -- cyanide kool-aid. nurses at two san jose

hospitals operated by hospital corporation of america will also walk out. the nurses are working without a contract and say management wants them to make concessions for health coverage and paid sick leave. the strike is only supposed to last for one day but the hospitals will lock nurses out for five days because of their contract with replacement nurses. state and federal officials are conducting investigations at soledad state prison for apparent wrongdoing by some nurses. investigators are looking into payroll fraud by one nurse and the diversion of pharmacy drugs intended for inmates by two other nurses. the nurses are also suspected of falsifying medical records to cover up for the missing drugs. a spokeswoman for the california department of corrections confirmed the investigation. she says the department is taking "appropriate action." 7:20. because it's a holiday week, people want to know about the

7:29. we're just learning about some breaking news from sonoma county. four people are in the hospital after a fire at a russian river resort. the fire at guerneville lodge also brought down fire lines across river road. the code is -- the road is closed to 316. the fire started at 3:15 this morning. the firefighters were able to knock it down in 45 minutes. four people were taken to the hospital. the extent of their injuries is not known. pg&e has been called to the scene to repair the power lines. muni must decide what to do with a multimillion dollar windfall. >> reporter: good morning. free rides for low income use

projects. live from san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, tara. menlo park police are increasing patrols in the bel haven area after a man was shot to death while walking to his car. a candle marks the spot where 42-year-old kerry custodylive of knew arc died saturday night. he was visiting a friend when he was attacked. police are not sure if the attack was a random robbery or if he was tarted but it's in the same neighborhood -- targeted but it's in the same neighborhood where police say there were two other shootings this month. >> i can't do nothing about it. some people do some things that don't have any mind. >> this is the second homicide victim of the year. the first was an accused teenaged gang member in june. 7:32. loose control improvements at richmond -- at the richmond refinery will be discussed. an environmental justice group is claiming that cancer causing

dust at that refinery is still lingering around homes and gardens from albany to san pablo. now, the group says five of eight dust samples contain high levels of potent carson know agains -- carcinogens. the bay area air quality district will be holding the meeting today in san francisco. workers at the port of oakland will began 24-hour strike. the union says the members have gone 16 months with no contract. the union accuses the court of demanding pay cuts despite having a surplus and they say the port is lying about the finances to both the workers and the public. the workers will start their strike at 9:00 tonight outside of the airport. the strike action will begin tomorrow morning. uc berkeley has cleared out the crops that are planted in albany bay protesters with occupy the farm.

the protesters started to plant the crops when they took over the track back in april. uc owns the land and they evicted the protesters in may. occupy the farm says they will respond to uc's actions sometime today. it is 7:33. walmart filed a complaint with the federal agency in an effort to fight back against the planned worker strike on one of the busiest striking days of the year. the united food and commercial workers union is calling for employees to walk off the job on black friday. walmart says the labor union is illegally organizing picket lines and other demonstrations. walmart says the company is ready for the black friday rush and that the striking workers represent just a small minority of their work force. happening now, holiday shoppers are already companied outside of a best -- camped outside of a best buy in

play tonight. however, fox sports say they have a source that they says would be a sur -- they have a surprise if he did not play. if smith is ruled out. collin kaepernick will get the start. now, the raiders, well, mark davis, is apologizing to the fans after the raiders third straight loss. the saints beat the raiders yesterday, 38-17. mark davis says he's patient but he wants progress. raiders are now 3-7. they will play the bangles in cincinnati next sunday. 7:38. no decision on the future of cal football coach jeff tedford. the bears finished with a disappointing 3-9 record. they got a shellacking by oregon state losing 64-14.

plans to retire in may. intell stocks were halted in early trading before the announcement. that is a typical procedure when there is a big management change. he's been with the company for almost four decades and ceo since 2005. he received his bachelor's degree in economics from the university of san francisco and a master's from cal. congress now has only six weeks to keep the country from going off the fiscal cliff. if lawmakers don't act before january 1st taxes go up for everybody and across-the-board spending cuts go into effect. jamie dupree has more from washington, d.c. is there time for a deal? >> reporter: there's always time for a deal. we have six weeks to go. there's no action going on this week. we've been told by key staffers not to expect anything. the house is out for a week from tomorrow, the senate is

out. everybody is home for their thanksgiving break. when they get back, the urgency will be there but you have to raise your eyebrows right now and wonder how much they can get down and will they just be able to broker sort of a framework deal and then fight next year over the details. the reason i raise that is because, for example, if you do go off the fiscal cliff, yeah, the tax rates go up. you have the automatic budget cuts kick in. and that's pretty simple. if you want to cut a deal, for example, the republicans say we're interested. we'll give you democrats, maybe more tax revenue but what about the whole issue of getting the situation where you -- the tax code, a lot of people would argue if you are gonna reform that, you have gonna that have to do that in more than five weeks. i remember the last tax code, that took most of the year, not just between thanksgiving and christmas. there are some people that feel that both sides may be

interested in letting us go off the fiscal cliff and negotiating back from there. maybe that would be an easier way to handle things. >> it could be. remember one thing, the automatic budget cuts that we're going through now, that's just the first in ten such installments that would go over the next ten years. think about all of the yelling and screaming you are hearing about. you have to do it again next year and the year after that and the year after that. i guess i look -- i look at it several days. one way to hold back on the increase of the size of government. i can rather a lot of democrats saying, you know what? one way to get back at the republicans is to go off the cliff. i don't know what's gonna happen. i know everybody is playing nice right now. boy, there's not much middle ground. we'll have to see when they get back after thanksgiving, tori. you think the winning money would be putting on the washington strategy of kicking

good morning. i've dave clark. >> it's monday, november 19th. we have breaking news from sonoma county. four people are in the hospital because of a fire at a russian river resort. it happened at the guerneville lodge. it started about 3:45 this morning. the fire actually was knocked down in about 45 minutes. it also caused some power lines of being knocked down across river road. now, newschopper2, you see it right there. it's on its way. it will take us there in a few minutes. to road is closed between bonita avenue and state highway 116. pg&e is headed there as well to fix those downed lines. again, you can see newschopper2 in the air heading there. so far we haven't heard anything about the conditions of those four people taken to the hospital. we'll keep checking with newschopper2 as soon as they get there and bring us live pictures. we'll abring you all of that information -- we'll bring you all of that information from the scene. in about 90 minutes, san

jose police will be holding a news conference talking about a continuing manhunt in connection with a person wanted with regarding a violent spree that led to an officer-involved shooting. alex savidge is live with more on this story. and a memorial was set up for a man caught up in the violence. >> reporter: well, san jose police say while the two criminals were on the run, they tried to carjack a man here outside of the 7/11 store and in the process, the man was shot and killed. we'll show you now that outside of the store, a memorial has been set up for the victim, rory park from san jose. police say they are trying to still at this point to identify and capture one of two men they believe were involved in this killing and in the string of violent crimes around san jose around friday night. so far one arrest has been made. 26-year-old jonathan wilbanks is behind bars. police believe he and his atom police carry -- accomplice

kirrryed out -- carried out robberies on friday night. one officer was grazed by gunfire when bullets went through the windshield of their patrol car. police returned fire. wilbanks was wounded and then taken into custody. but they say the accomplice was able to escape during the shootout. and this morning, the search is on. one neighbor who stopped by the memorial this morning told me this killing struck a nerve with her. >> it could have been anyone. it could have been us. you know, just going about his own business and somebody tried to steal his car and kill him. i don't think his life was worth that. >> reporter: and the police say there's no updates so far to report on the search for that second suspect. police are holding a news conference later on this morning. that begins at 9:30 at city hall. they will have more on this

top oakland police officials are the targets of some sharp criticism it's coming from the department's own police union. the oakland tribune reports the police union filed a harsh critique in court. it accuses department leaders of misleading the public about implementing court-ordered reforms stemming from the 2003 ryders case. this all comes as the department faces a federal takeover. on december 13th, a judge will hear arguments on whether to appoint a federal receiver. while the ross mirkarimi case is still fresh on many friends, an event is promoting an end to violence againstwomen. the sheriff and his family have been invited to the annual mission district healing arts

festival. organizers say the event gives men and women who have endured violence a space to heal. mirkarimi is on probation after pleading guilty in march to a misdemeanor false imprisonment for a new year's eve argument where he bruised his wife's arm. a south bay organization will start passing out holiday gift boxes to needy families. janine de la vega is in san jose and has been on this story since 4:30 this morning and you are outside sacred heart community services there. what's the late, janine? -- what's the latest, janine? >> reporter: well, volunteers have really come out to help set things up. that's because hundreds of families are gonna come here and get pre-boxed food. they will all get a turkey and some fresh vegetables and boxed items. this is video that we took at

4:00 this morning. this really illustrates the need for the low-income families. these people are here to pick up holiday food boxes. it doesn't start until 9:00 a.m. but they camped out here because they said they needed blankets and clothes. many are not homeless. they are low income and just struggling to live in the silicon valley. i talked to someone woman who said how thankful she was and how difficult her thanksgiving would be without her help. >> it would be like -- as long as somebody opens the doors for you and everything, it will be okay. i was grateful. >> reporter: sacred heart community service has registered more families than they did last year to receive holiday food boxes. they expect to serve 4,000 and the staff says they are hoping not to turn anyone away. othough the charity is still short 1,000 turkeys and they say they could use more

weapons charges have been dropped against an oakland raiders line backer. mcclain was supposed to serve 180 days in jail after being convicted of weapons charges involving a gun in alabama but the alleged victim decided not to press charges. he will not serve any jail time and he's cleared. thousands of bay area parolees may soon get a prepass from behind bars. it's part of an effort to

relieve overcrowding at state prisons. the state wants to discharge 10,000 parolees at large from state parole supervision. officials say the plan will only release low-level offenders. but according to an internal department of corrections memo obtained by ktvu in the second and third phases, serious and violent criminal cases could also be reviewed. the mart jo -- the majority of our victims that have been involved in violent crimes or suspects are either on probation or parole or sometimes both. so you are adding to that population by allowing them to basically wipe their slate clean. >> while there are many people against the plan, corrections officials are defending the change sas a necessary part of the -- a necessary part of the realignment of the california prison system. 8:25. let's get you moving. sal, how is 880 holding up? >> it's a little bit slow.

breaking news from sonoma county -- 8:0. breaking news from sonoma -- 8:30. sonoma county, four people in the hospital after a fire at the guerneville lodge. newschopper2 has these pictures. you can see all of the fire department activity still at the scene. firefighters were actually able to put the fire out about two hours ago. they are still there watching for possible flareups. another big problem, the fire knocked down power lines across river road. so that road is closed between bonita avenue and highway 116. newschopper2 is giving us that wider look at the road there. so far, we don't know about the condition of the four people who had to be taken to the hospital. at this point, we don't know the cause of the fire. it's still under investigation. meantime, in other news, city leaders in san francisco will step into a really big money battle involving muni.

muni has to decide what to do with the multi-million dollar windfall ktvu's tara moriarty says the big decision is really boiling down to two options, right, tara? >> reporter: yes, and a lot of people would like to see some of sort of a balance struck here. some say use it to provide money for improvement. others say use it to provide free rides for those who can't afford it? it is a debate that's pitting youth activists against transit corrects. in one hour, it will be the focus of a meeting downtown, the board of supervisors government audit. the metropolitan transportation committed just allotted $6.7 million. so now they need to decide how to use it. some would like to see free rides for low-incomes. but others are saying to put it into maintenance. >> they only run one car. you can hardly get on it.

they used to run two cars from this area but now they only run one. it's very discouraging to try to get to work on time. there's no free lunch and you kids have to learn that at a young age. >> reporter: one kids who can't afford to buy a ticket ride it anyway and get a ticket. >> i know some who can't afford the ticket and i feel bad. >> reporter: wiener feels like they should improve the maintenance. but critics say that he's creating a false ultimatum. when future funds become available, they should be used for maintenance projects. the public can base the opinion but ultimately, the board will take place on december 4th. thrive san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news.

workers at -- live in san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. workers at the port will begin a 48-hour strike. the union says its members have gone 16 months without a contract. the union says the port is lying about port finances to the workers and the public. workers will begin their strike at 9:00 tonight at the oakland airport. the strike action outside of the port begins in the morning. uc berkeley has cleared out the crops. the protesters starting to plant the crops when they took over the gill tract in albany in april. uc owns the land and evicted the protesters in may. the activists say they were building on what they believe they owned. three people have been

arrested in the death of a homeless man. police the victim's body was found late saturday night. the 53-year-old man was pronounced dead south of depot park. shortly after, the police said they found the suspects and they were looked -- they were looked for -- booked for investigation of murder. 8:34. more police patrols in menlo park in the bel airen -- haven area. after a man was shot in his car as -- bel haven area after a man was shot while walking to his car. he was visiting a friend when attacked. police are not sure if this was random or targeted. but it happened in the same neighborhood where police say there were two other sheetings this month. >> all of a sudden, all of these shootings, it's -- it's heartbreaking. it's too much. >> now, cunliff is menlo park's second homicide of the year. the first was an accused teenaged gang member back in

alex savidge is on this story since 4:30 this morning. so alex why so so -- why are so many people concerned about their safety? >> reporter: that's because police are still trying to identify and capture that second suspect in this crime spree that included a killing. two armed men tried to carjack a driver and that man ended up being shot and killed in the process. you can see here outside of the store, a memorial has been set up for that victim identified as rory park from san jose. so far, one arrest has been made. 26-year-old jonathan wilbanks is behind bars. police believe he and his accomplice carried out four separate armed robberies on friday night and then opened up fire on police officers after a chase. one officer was grazed by gunfire when bullets grazed through the front window. police returned fire, wounding wilbanks and he was taken into

custody. but police say during the shootout, wilbanks' accomplice managed to escape. he's still on the loose. police interest trying to find him. they consider him a daker to the public -- danger to the public. one neighbor said she's upset an innocent man lost his life. >> it could have been anyone, it could have been us. a guy just going about his business. somebody tried to kill his -- tried to steal his car and kill him. i don't think his life was worth that. >> reporter: san jose police are woulderring up -- offering up a $10,000 reward for any information for the capture of this individual still on the loose. at last check, no updates. but still are still planning to hold a news conference at 9:30 at san jose city hall, both police and the mayor will be involved there. the possible motive for this

minutes from now, families in san jose will begin receiving holiday food boxes from volunteers at sacred heart community service. janine de la vega is live in san jose where volunteers have been getting ready, things ready all morning. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning. well, in the next five minutes, sacred heart community service will open its doors and start handing out turkeys. you are looking at a line of people who are waiting to get inside and also this is what they are waiting for. here you can see, each of them will be given a big turkey and they will all be given these fresh produce, vegetables, they have all been prepackaged in these holiday gift boxes. now, in the last hour, there's been a lot of activity at

sacred heart community service. each gift box has a turkey, canned food and fruits and vegetables. the charity will serve more than 4,000 turkeys but they are short about 1,000 turkeys. some people drove in this morning to drop off donations because they recognize the need. this morning i was watching the news and saw that they were short on turkeys and decided on the way in, i would stop and buy one on way in. >> reporter: how does that make you feel? >> it's a good feeling as well. you want to help your community as best you can. it's an opportunity to do so. >> reporter: just to give you an idea of the need for food, this is video that we took outside of sacred heart a week and a half ago, hundred of people camped outovernight in the rain to register to the the holiday food boxes and for toys for children. back out here live, you can see cars are actually lined up because people have been hearing about the need for food and those people in those cars are dropping off donations. now, if you would like to help, you can go to our website at
